2016 Fly Fishing Fair Summary
This year's Southern Council Fly Fishing Fair was buzzing with excitement at our new venue! We want to thank each tyer, presenter, vendor, and attendee for their continued support. President Ron Knight and his Conclave Committee are to be commended for their hard work. As with any new, venue, we've found a few areas we will work to improve such as lighting and a shuttle service to the parking lot. Your overall response to The Sheid was a big thumbs up, so we have secured October 6 - 7, 2017 for next year's Fly Fishing Fair.
This year's award recipients were:
Fred DuPré, Man of the Year
Michael Lack, Fly Tyer of the Year
Sandy Halteman, Federator of the Year
Dr. Mike Marshall, Teacher of the Year
Scott Darrough, Conservation Award
Tradd Little won both the Fly Casting Games and the Iron Man Fly contest. Thanks to all contestants who took part in these friendly competitions. It's exciting to see youthful faces embracing the sport we love. Speaking of youth, we had 11 children take part in the Youth Conclave. A shout out to Jerry Jester and his team for sharing their love of our sport with the next generation.
Eight years ago we took the baton from Pat Smith and began our journey as your Managing Directors. Thank you for choosing us and allowing us to serve you these past years. We find ourselves ready to begin a new chapter in our lives. Riverside Retreat, our resort and guide service, now requires all of Chris's time and attention and Carol will be using her extra time as an in home Hospice volunteer. In January, we will pass the baton back to Pat Smith. The Board of Directors could not have made a better choice. We will continue to hold Fly Fishing Schools as SOC fund raisers, so we will still be involved, just in a much smaller less conspicuous role.
We wish God's richest blessings upon you,
Chris & Carol Jackson
